The Good, the Bad, and the Puking (or Why I Was Really Late to Work Today)
Last night was definitely a low point for me (and I know it was for Becky too), but I just felt seriously frustrated and nearly defeated. It was a somewhat normal night for us, dinner at home and the normal bedtime routine for Grayson. He’s still been fighting a terrible cough so I gave him some heavy duty (aka The Good Stuff) cough medicine when I checked his blood sugar at around 9:30pm. He was 146. I checked him again just before midnight. Suddenly he was 364 and after taking him to the bathroom, he collapsed on the floor and called for Becky. Seconds later, he was throwing up. Large keytones. When had his pump stopped delivering correctly? Or is he just sick? I corrected him and then rechecked 30 minutes later. He was 395 and so I added a bit more correction. At 1:00am he was 392 and it was definitely time for the manual correction and the numbing cream so we could change out his site but we were reacting too slowly as he threw up again (luckily made it to the bathroom). At 2am, we changed out the site and rechecked him and it was obvious the shot was working as he was 309 and dropping. We both collapsed around 2:30am after the hours of battling the evil big numbers and what may have been their side effects. Becky checked him again at 5:50am and he was down to 131.
Our remaining fears of a stomach bug were erased this morning when Becky stumbled downstairs around 7:30 and found that Grayson was already up and was working on his handwriting at the kitchen table. His teacher has been encouraging the kids to write out sentences even if they aren’t able to spell all the words. She just wants them to try and to attempt to put something down on paper. I didn’t get to see his sheet this morning (because he wanted to take it to his teacher) but one of the many sentences he’d written (obviously he’d been up for awhile) said: “Last night I threw up.” And he happily announced that he wanted to go to school. He might have felt fine, but I sure wasn’t ready for anything but more sleep… especially with some dreams of not having to deal with a disease that’s so 24×7.

I’m so sorry. I’m glad Grayson is feeling better now.
I was up with you last night. Riley ran high all night and I finally changed his needle at 5 AM. Then, he promptly came down.
I hate the 24/7 of it all.

Is the Good Stuff sugar-free?
