Snow Days and Sick Days
This past Thursday and Friday ended up being Snow Days for Grayson and sick days for me. Thursday, we had just a very light dusting of snow. I never even saw it. I was in bed until the early afternoon when I mustered the strength to get to the doctor. By then, whatever snow had fallen was long gone. But since this was February, and there were some back roads with some ice problems, the school systems all decided to cancel. Friday, I thought I was feeling better as we all looked out and saw we’d gotten about an inch or inch and half of snow. Schools were closed again, of course. So I headed outside with Grayson with my camera to capture what I knew might be our only significant snow of the year.
Becky finally got to have her moment of “I told you so” as the kids in the neighborhood used our sleds and Grayson stayed warm and dry in his heavy coat, snow bib, and snow boots (although those did come off one time because they are a bit too big). It was definitely the first time Grayson was truly happy about being in the snow. The two other times he’d been out in the snow in Georgia he was less than thrilled. But as Grayson’s frustration mounted with his mittens and the other kids began to really feel cold and wet, the outside fun didn’t last too long. As we came back inside, I knew I wasn’t feeling 100%, but it wasn’t till I walked up the steps into the house that I realized just how much I was in trouble. The combination of no breakfast and the prescriptions from the previous night along with a fever just about had me passing out. I spent the next few hours dealing with the chills from the fever and then pretty much the rest of the day just trying to recover. It was around 4 o’clock that I managed to finally make it out of bed and back downstairs.
As a side note to all of this, Becky’s cousin Leslie was here (with her son, Ben) to witness it all. I know that all three of us were sad her visit had to come to an end (her departure hastened slightly due to my sickness). Grayson and Ben played really well together and Becky and Leslie got to spend some quality time hanging out.
