Switchfoot and EMI/Sparrow
As I had previously reported about the copy-protection used on the latest Switchfoot CD, I was shocked to discover that EMI/Sparrow (the Christian distribution label for Switchfoot) also used a copy protection scheme but apparently not the same one. From their press release:
Copies of the new Switchfoot CD, “Nothing is Sound,” that were manufactured by EMI CMG (Sparrow logo on the back), and available at Christian retail, do not contain First4Internet’s XCP content protection technology, and therefore are not being recalled.
Obviously, this is absurd. The Christian market gets the copy protection still and now the secular market gets none? That makes sense. I’d like to see all the Christian retailers (the one I work for included) put more pressure on Sparrow/EMI to recall the CD’s and also to make sure that this doesn’t happen in the future.
