Relooking at My Choice of Search Engines
After the Google China thing and their high and mighty attitude towards the US DOJ (even though it turns out the DOJ was looking for just search queries and not IP addresses of people doing the searches… in order to collect some statistics), I decided that I needed to recheck my choice of search engines. My initial thought was then to find some cool obscure search but after spending just a short while looking around, it seems like one of the better choices would be AlltheWeb. It’s essentially the Yahoo database but without the ugly Yahoo look and feel. One of the cool things about Yahoo’s database is that it correctly points a search for Steven Wilcox to my site (it also correctly knows where WilcoxZone is as well as my new location for Dev-Picayune) So for at least a few weeks, I am going to be checking out AlltheWeb to see if I can make the switch.

I’ve noticed that I like Yahoo searches better most of the time too. Google tends to tweak their results a lot and sometimes you can’t even find something you were looking for a day later.
The problem is I am addicted to Google’s cache feature. It seems like half the links I get in a search are too slow or won’t come at all. This is where Yahoo and other search engines really suffer by comparison.
