Ghosted
Every year it happens before I have a chance to mount a proper preemptive strike, a sheet a paper with a ghost on it appears along with some candy. The note tells you that you have to “ghost” or “phantom” some of your other neighbors. In the past, I’d seen a single “pass it on” and a more typical “hit 2″ thing (to keep it going). But this year, the note was calling for us to pass this act of halloween cheer onto not two but three homes. Obviously, the halloween scrooges (like me) have affected the ghosting outcome and the net result is folks participating are being asked to hit even more houses. This also raises another problem. If you want to prevent being ghosted multiple times, you end up having tape the cheesy ghost to your front door or window. Apparently, plenty of folks have been hit by this througout the country for the last few years.
Call me whatever you want, but I just don’t get this whole halloween decorating and celebrating craze. I swear there are a bunch of people in our subdivision that go through more effort for halloween than they do for Christmas. That’s just so wrong in so many ways. It’s kind of similar to my thoughts on soccer but I’ll leave that for another day. For now, I’ll enjoy some candy from the “ghost” or “phantom”, stick the tacky ghost picture up on the door, and feel content as I break the neighborhood chain letter.
