Setting the Record Straight
I have a correction to make regarding a post from May 26th, 2004. My post was just in reference to an article about baseball pitcher David Pember. Had I done my homework my thoroughly, I would have properly credited him as a “major league” player instead of just “minor league”. As it turns out, in September of 2002, Dave was called up to Milwaukee. He pitched 8.2 innings before suffering some shoulder trouble. It’s amazing what you can find on the internet. If you try hard enough, you can find his stats from the games he pitched to discover that he’s faced Barry Bonds (0-1), Sammy Sosa (0-2), Scott Rolen (0-2), etc… and Jeff Kent and Reggie Sangers are some bigger names among his 5 strikeouts. So first, I had to set the record straight and give proper credit there.
What’s truly amazing though is how God managed to allow us to actually meet in person. David took the time to send me an email after he found my reference (not to correct me either) and to inquire about my interest in diabetes. I sent back an email response telling him about Grayson’s recent diagnosis before I left for my flight out to Phoenix. As it turns out, David is currently staying in the area and it worked out that we were able to get together in person. It was a honor and a real encouragement to talk with him. I really hope that as Grayson gets older, I will be able to properly point to folks like David when he’s discouraged about his diabetes or just his pursuits in general… that he can know that there are others who have been down a similar path and have succeeded.
