Social Security Options
This article from foxnews.com discusses the monetary situation with Social Security and then finally the political options behind it. What I particularly like about it is the end which clearly emphasizes the 3 basic options for dealing with Social Security — 1) raise taxes, 2) cut benefits, or 3) privatize/rework the program or at least part of it. As the article points out, Kerry has said that he promises not to privatize Social Security (or any part of it) and has promised not to cut benefits. That leaves one option only — raise Social Security tax. The article points out just how much tax that might end up being. The numbers become incredibly mind-boggling. This is just another example of the short-sided thinking that liberals have about issues. Instead of thinking about the long-term, they pander to the more elderly voters or to folks nearing retirement (and playing on their fears to gain votes). They also cling to this idea that the government can solve the problem internally somehow… and that privatization is somehow evil. Let’s forget about the fact that choices are good (and liberals like choice when it comes to abortion) but they don’t want me (as a younger worker) to have any choices about Social Security. This concept that the government knows best is insulting.
