NYU Student Lived in the Library
I found this story about a NYU student who slept in the library quite amusing. What I think is particularly interesting though is that despite not having enough money to afford housing, he did have enough money to have a web-site… www.homelessatnyu.com — which as you can see includes a vanity domain name. Even I am not willing to pay for such things (yet anyway). Apparently his account isn’t too extravagant though because as soon as you attempt to click through to the site, it hits you with a bandwidth exceeded page. The other thing I found startling was the cost of going to school there. $7700 per year for housing plus $31,000 for tuition. $31,000 a year for tuition? Dang! That’s some serious money! That $7700 is the cheapest end of the range… $16000 was the top number. So theoretically you would have to pay $16000 + $31000 per year to go there. So now we are at $47,000 a year! I guess I shouldn’t be so shocked but I guess I am. In contrast a quick search at SUNY (State University of New York) shows a total cost of $15,145 per year and that includes tuition, books, room and board on campus, plus $1190 in personal expenses and $580 in transportation costs). That really a difference of over $33,625 per year just to go to NYU. Over the corse of 4 years you’re looking at $134,500. Now that, is a lot of money just for the “experience” of being at NYU instead of your local state school.
