Bush and Security

I found this FOXNews.com editorial which basically indicates that Americans have become so numb to the security issue that it seems people are allowing Bush to work himself out of a job. What I really want to know is why people think Kerry would make the economy better. What is he proposing that will really give us long term and real economic prosperity? Making four year college educations available to everyone? No! Additional welfare benefits for the unemployed? No! I am so sick and tired of hearing people blame W. for unemployment rates. “Bill Clinton created x Million jobs… blah, blah, blah…” — yeah… it’s called the internet .com craze. A technology boom. Technology that was developed during and because of the cold war… supported and nurtured by Republican presidents. Fact: the economy was already headed on a steady up slope swing before Bill Clinton took office. He was just smart enough to stay out of the way enough to keep from screwing it up bad. Fact: the current recession started in 2000 (before W. was elected and before he took office in Jan of 2001). The Reagan/Bush Sr. years laid the groundwork for the success of the Clinton years which the Democrats take all the credit for. The other thing that must be considered too is that much of the success of the 90’s was on borrowed money. It really was a bubble that was bound to burst. It was primarily all just borrowed money and prices based on a dream future that couldn’t really happen. Stocks were overvalued, accounting practices were twisted, investors were delirious, money flowed. W. is getting blamed for a natural occurrence in the ebbs and flows of the national and world economies.

I remember my Dad and I talking about the election before things were decided in Florida. My Dad then said “It won’t be all bad if Al Gore wins. Were headed into a real recession here and who ever is president will be blamed for it. If Al wins, it’ll be a long time before another Democrat is ever elected again because things will tank so bad.” Instead, Bush is now having to bear that burden. The constant chanting of the democrats saying “the economy is terrible, the economy is terrible, Bush is giving money to the rich, Bush is giving money to the wealthy… ” is sinking in. Class warfare is a very dangerous thing.
