DVDRhelp
Thanks to recommendations from DVDRhelp.com, I used DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink and one other tool that I can’t remember right now (used to create an .iso image), I was able to make a copy of a DVD last night using my new DVD drive and an inexpensive 4x DVD R disc (25 for $25 at Staples). It took about 20 minutes or more to download the DVD to the hard drive. It then took about 45 minutes or more to recompress the entire disc to a new set of files that would actually fit on a regular DVD and then another 10 minutes to burn the DVD. I found it amazing that after all that… and the use of 4 different programs the end result was a working DVD that worked in my Sony DVD player (that won’t even play an audio CD-R). But with the task so complex and long, I doubt I will be making backups of very many of my movies.
