Emissions Testing and My Truck

The other day, my truck had to be tested for emissions for the first time. Needless to say, I was shocked that it had failed. Right before having the truck tested, Becky had gotten gas and I suspect that some excess vapors trying to escape from the full tank caused their fuel sniffer to register a faulty gas cap. I haven’t found much info on the web about Emissions Tests and failing gas caps but basically, the emissions cost us at least another $13 as Becky had to drive to the Dodge dealership to get a new gas cap and then return to the testing place for the retest. It could have been worse since the emissions place would have provided a new one for an unreasonable $28. I still wonder if she had showed up for the retest and said that it had been replaced (but actually had the original one on there), if it wouldn’t have passed anyway since the gas in the tank would have settled by then.
